Introduction
Being a Des sources High School cheerleader is a great honor. It requires a commitment from you. That commitment includes being at all practices and games, showing respect for coaches and displaying the school spirit that embodies cheerleading.
Attendance
Each cheerleader will be granted 4 absences without a medical excuse. These absences include competition practices. The cheerleaders parents should notify a coach of any absence as soon as possible. Any more than 4 unexcused absences will result in being removed from the squad.
Any absence occurring from illness, the coach must be notified by a parent at least 2 hours prior to game/practice. If no notification is given, the absence is considered unexcused.
For absences, please .............. and leave a message.
In addition, the members of the Senior team team are REQUIRED to attend designated home basketball games--to participate in the pregame activities as well as to help cheer and to promote school spirit. If these rules are not followed, the cheerleader will receive an unexcused absence.
Each Senior team member is REQUIRED to check in with the cheerleader coach at the designated varsity home game in order to receive credit for that game's attendance. The Senior squad will sit together with the cheerleader coach at all games. If this is not done, the cheerleader will be given an unexcused absence.

PDS DON'T PLAY!
Tardiness
Practices- If a cheerleader is more than 10 minutes late for a practice, she will receive 2 demerits. Anything more than 20 minutes late will result in an absence (see above rule).
Games- If a cheerleader is more than 10 minutes late for a game, she will sit out the first quarter or will be given demerits. If she is more than 20 minutes late for a game, she will be suspended for one game (to be decided by the coach), which will be considered an absence (see above rule). Attendance is expected 2 minutes before halftime is over. If a cheerleader is not back on time, she will be benched for the 3rd quarter and/or given demerits as the coach sees fit.
PRATICES
Cheerleaders should be dressed and ready to practice at 2:45pm in the Gym. Cheerleaders should wear cheerleading shoes to practices. No clothing made of shiny material or oversized clothing should be worn. Cheerleaders are to have removed all jewelry (including earrings, rings, bracelets and necklaces and body piercings) before practice. Hair should be pulled back, off shoulders and out of eyes. No gum, food, or pop is allowed. Water and Juice is allowed. If any of these rules are broken, the cheerleader will receive 2 demerits.
*Nails- According to IHSA rules, long nails are strictly prohibited for safety reasons. If the cheerleader has long nails, she will sit out and receive an absence for each practice or game she misses due to nails. The rule, which can be found on Page 14, Section 2, Article 2, states "Fingernails, including artificial nails, shall be kept at a length appropriate for safe participation. The appropriate length means the nails are not visible beyond the end of the fingers when viewed from the palm side of hands." There is no exception to this rule, and this rule will apply to any team activities, whether that means practices, games or competitions.

Fundraising
All cheerleaders are expected to participate in fundraisers related to cheerleading. Attendance rules concerning demerits will apply. We will have 3 to 4 per year.
Competition
It is mandatory that all cheerleaders compete in competition. Cheerleaders may NOT practice their competition routine during the regularly scheduled practices-- unless they receive permission from the coaches. Additional practices will be held on Saturdays and evenings. Attendance is mandatory at all competition practices. REMEMBER WORK IS NOT AN EXCUSE! Any costs incurring as a result of competition, will be the responsibility of the cheerleader/parents.
